Three of the six machines sharing this airbox are 125s, and for them the case against a racing medium can be made without discussing air at all: their output ceiling is written into the licence class they are homologated for. The ZT 200 has no such paperwork limit, so here the argument has to be a mechanical one. It is worth running properly, because this is the only machine on the list where it is even a question.
Key Features
- Dry racing polyester: 85 µm of filtration, 15,000 l/m²/sec of published flow
- Measured at 95.22 % retention on 100-micron particles, where the standard weave measured 93.13 %
- About twice the filtering area of an ordinary performance element
- A direct fit in the standard airbox with no cutting, no adaptor and no recalibration
- A dry medium, never oiled, cleaned with an air line and used again
- Specified for the life of the motorcycle and covered by two years of warranty
Running the argument
A flow rating describes what a medium will pass, not what an engine will ask for. On a standard 200 the inlet tract, the throttle body, the camshafts, the exhaust and the calibration each set their own ceiling, and the panel in the airbox is not the lowest of them — which is exactly why the swap needs no remap and produces no headline number. Roughly tripling the rated flow of the medium moves the highest of those ceilings and leaves every other one where it was. That is the whole of it: no slot-in element makes a production motorcycle noticeably faster, and this code is listed at close to three times the standard one for the same case.
When the answer is yes
There is a version of this machine for which the code makes sense: one that has stopped being a road bike, works in clean air rather than on dusty lanes, is held at full throttle for sustained stretches, and has its airbox opened as routine rather than once a season. A wider opening is defensible when the case is checked that often, and the flow figure is redeemed when the engine genuinely asks for it. Where those conditions are absent, and on a registered ZT 200 they usually are, the standard element covers road and track use and the 14 micron nonwoven covers dust.
Care and cleaning
Service it dry wherever possible. Compressed air directed at the clean face and worked outward clears normal loading in a couple of minutes. For anything greasy, lukewarm water with a mild detergent does the work, followed by rinsing until the water is clear. Room-temperature moving air is the only drying method, heat of any kind is prohibited, and the SM276S F1-85 is refitted completely dry and untreated. The instruction sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Sprint Filter catalogues this code for the Zontes ZT 200, 2020 to 2026, the largest engine on a fitment list that starts at 125 cm³. Six machines in total share the airbox and the element. Order by code and year.
