The YZF-R125 is the machine in this family that actually goes racing. Junior and one-make classes built around small full-faired sports bikes are where a great many riders start, and they run to regulations that permit very little — which is exactly why the parts that are permitted get scrutinised so closely. An air filter element is usually among them, because it is internal, alters no dimension and changes nothing a scrutineer measures. The Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 is the competition version of that permitted part: dry polyester flowing 15,000 l/m²/sec at a filtration of 85 microns.
Key Features
- The P08 F1-85 racing medium: filtration to 85 microns, air flow 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Dry polyester with no oil in it — no film for a scrutineer or a sensor to find
- About twice the filtering surface found in other performance filters
- The standard airbox stays standard: nothing cut, drilled, relocated or remapped
- Washable and reusable, brought back with compressed air between sessions
- Two years of warranty, on an element that is designed to last the life of the motorcycle

Regulations differ in precisely this kind of detail, and a part advertised as generally legal is a part described carelessly. Some classes permit any element in an otherwise standard airbox; some specify the original part; some allow the element only where mapping changes are also permitted. What a supplier can offer is an accurate description of what the part is — a replacement medium inside an unaltered standard airbox, with the box, lid, inlet, volume and mounting untouched — so that it can be held against the regulations that actually apply to a given grid.
What a season looks like with it
The practical benefit for a junior team is that the element stops being a consumable. Paddocks are dusty places, and a small bike run over a full season would otherwise work through several paper elements. This one is blown through with the compressor already in the awning, refitted dry and used again — no spare to budget for and nothing to run out of on a Sunday morning. An oiled element has to be cleaned, dried, re-oiled and then left long enough for the oil to distribute before it goes back in — a sequence that does not fit between two races and is easy to rush. Too much oil ends up downstream on the throttle body or the intake sensor; too little leaves the medium doing less than it should. The F1-85 removes the procedure entirely: air, refit, done.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side of the PM198S F1-85, worked outwards, then refitted dry. At the end of a meeting it is worth a wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear and dried fully in air — never with heat, never near a flame. Oiling never enters into it. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Yamaha YZF R125 from 2019 to 2026. The same PM198S F1-85 element covers seven machines across the 125 and 155 range; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
