Key Features
- Dimension A 39 mm
- Dimension B 82 mm
- Öhlins part number 21632-09
- Original Öhlins service part
Function
This one measures 39 mm, 82 mm, and those figures are what separate it from the neighbouring numbers. A worn adjuster loses its clicks, and with them any chance of a methodical setup. Detent balls and springs are separate parts because they wear before the housing does. Öhlins builds click adjusters with defined detents so a setting can be written down and returned to.
Original Öhlins Part
A damper that can be rebuilt is a damper that stays on the bike; that is the whole argument for original service parts. Buying the individual part rather than a complete assembly is what makes servicing an Öhlins unit worthwhile. Order by part number — descriptions repeat across sizes, numbers do not. If you are unsure which number your unit takes, send us the model and serial number of the damper and we will look it up.
Getting the Number Right
Part number 21632-09 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. The published dimensions are dimension a 39 mm, dimension b 82 mm — measure the old part against them if you are unsure. Öhlins offers several lengths so the same body can serve different springs. Electronically controlled adjusters replace the needle with a solenoid but keep the same hydraulics.
Fitting and Setup Service
If you would rather not open the damper yourself, we can do it — we are an authorised Öhlins service centre and rebuild these units as a matter of routine.
