What It Is
This position is identified by its number rather than by a dimension. Öhlins uses a piston band rather than metal-to-metal contact, which is what keeps the bore intact. The seat face has to be flat enough for the first shim to seal against it. A worn piston band lets oil past the outside of the piston, which shows up as damping that has gone soft.
