Öhlins at Both Ends
The S specification brings Öhlins forks and shock plus a quickshifter. On a motorcycle intended for real roads rather than circuits, better damping is worth considerably more than more power.
A Steel Trellis, Still
Ducati built the SuperSport around a conventional trellis frame at a time when its superbikes had abandoned them. It is part of why the bike feels the way it does at road speeds.
The Shared Testastretta
Nine hundred and thirty-seven cubic centimetres, eleven degrees of overlap and a 30.000 kilometre service interval. Ducati spread this engine across the range because it is genuinely good.
Housing Alone
The switch block stays where it is. This part replaces the throttle assembly, which is the cheaper route to a better cockpit when the electrics are healthy.
Precision at Low Openings
The bore is machined rather than moulded. On a bike ridden on twisting roads, the first fifteen degrees of throttle are where all the useful work happens and where play is most obvious.
Black Anodising
Converted into the metal. Against the S's gold suspension it is the finish that acknowledges without competing, which usually reads better than a match attempt.
Aerospace Alloy
Ergal 7075, roughly twice the yield strength of the 6000 series found in most machined parts. Harder to cut and considerably more durable where it clamps.
A Quickshifter That Suits It
The S's bidirectional shifter turns the SuperSport into something genuinely quick on a mountain road without asking the rider to work any harder. It is the single best thing about the specification.
