Staggered Bolts
The offset pattern for one of the two clamp types. On an SP, frequently modified at the lever end, thirty seconds with the old block off the bar answers it.
Dust, Then Everything Else
Supermotos collect grit before they collect rain, and unlike water it never dries out of a joint again. It settles on a terminal and stays for the life of the part.
Heavier by a Little
A billet body against moulded plastic. The difference goes the wrong way and it is small enough not to matter, which is worth saying plainly rather than avoiding.
Military-Specification Contacts
Sealed far beyond road requirements. An SP is washed with a hot jet after track sessions and left out in a paddock, both considerably harder on switchgear than commuting.
A Programme, Not a Mould
Injection tooling only pays back across huge volumes. A machining file costs nothing to alter, which is the reason components exist for models sold in modest numbers.
First Point of Contact
When a supermoto goes down the bar end hits before anything else. A moulded shell splits along its joint and a milled body scuffs, which decides whether the session continues.
A Supermoto at Circuits
The SP specification exists because a number of owners take these to track days, where a Hypermotard is quicker than its bar width suggests. Ducati specified the suspension and the brakes for that rather than for a showroom.
Standing, Most of the Corner
A supermoto ridden properly has the rider off the seat with the weight over the pegs and the hands low. Every control has to work from that position as well as from the saddle, which is a harder brief than it sounds.
Turning on the Front Wheel
The raised ride height steepens the head angle and loads the front tyre harder than the standard 950 does. It rewards a rider who trusts the front end and it is unforgiving of one who does not.
