Adjustable Kayaba
The Factory's suspension can be set properly at both ends, which on a motorcycle this light matters more than another five horsepower would. It is the version bought by people who intend to ride it hard.
The Engine Carries the Load
Aprilia bolts the swingarm to the engine and leaves out the rear subframe. Compact, light and effectively unmodifiable, which pushes owner attention to the parts that can be changed.
Modes and Menus
Riding modes, traction levels, engine braking and cruise control, all navigated from this block. The keys on the left do far more work than anything on the right side of the bar.
Ten Thousand Five Hundred
The 659 cc twin's peak arrives high because it inherited superbike cylinder dimensions. It asks to be revved in a way the rest of the class does not.
Black or Titanium
Both anodised through the surface. The Factory's livery is distinctive enough that black usually settles the cockpit, while titanium picks up the fork legs.
Sealed and Machined
Elements enclosed within a body cut from solid. A naked bike gives its switchgear nothing at all, so the housing has to do the whole job by itself.
How the Original Ends
Not through use but through water. A contact corrodes over a winter, the function becomes intermittent through the spring, and the factory answer is the complete assembly.
Aprilia's Own Plug
Pre-wired, so nothing is cut into the loom. The block goes on in fifteen minutes and comes off in the same time.
Priced Like a Middleweight
Aprilia specified this motorcycle with equipment from a class above and then sold it against ordinary middleweights. That combination is the reason the 660 platform reviewed the way it did, and it is why so many of them end up modified by owners who did not expect to become interested.
