Renamed the Ninja 1000 SX
Kawasaki changed the name in 2020 along with a substantial update. Buyers looking at used examples need to know both names.

A Bent Bracket Looks Identical
A drop on the left can move the switch out of position without damaging it, and the symptoms are the same as a failure. Checking alignment first costs nothing.
Sealed Rather Than Open
The eliminator is potted, so the connector it occupies stays as protected from water as it was with the original switch fitted. That is not true of every improvised solution.
A Question Worth Asking
Is the stand still on the motorcycle? If it is, the interlock is protecting against a real mistake and a new switch is the better answer.
Salt Reaches It First
Everything low on the left of a motorcycle used through winter spends months in salt spray, and this switch is closer to the road than anything else electrical.
Record the Change
Anybody working on the motorcycle later will assume the interlock behaves as Kawasaki built it, and the eliminator is easy to miss. A line in the book prevents a wasted afternoon.
Panniers as Standard Practice
A great many SX owners fit Kawasaki's own cases permanently rather than removing them between trips, which changes how the motorcycle is parked and how much load the sidestand carries.
