Gear and Stand Together
The controller reads both and acts only when they disagree. Neutral with the stand down is perfectly acceptable to it and always has been.
Reversible
The standard switch refits with the stand whenever the motorcycle returns to the road, and nothing is consumed in either direction.
Sealed Rather Than Open
The eliminator is potted, so the connector it occupies stays as protected from water as it was with the original switch fitted. That is not true of every improvised solution.
Corrosion Is Gradual
Resistance climbs slowly as the contacts degrade, so the engine starts cutting out under conditions that seem random. By then it has been failing for months.
An Organiser's View
Most track day operators would rather not see a sidestand at all, which is one of several reasons it leaves before anything else does.
The Connector Is the Weak Point
More often than the switch itself. Cleaning it and packing it with dielectric grease sometimes buys another year, which is worth attempting before anything is ordered.
Almost Unbreakable
The 649 cc twin has been in production in various forms since 2006 and has a reputation for durability that very few engines of any size can match. High-mileage Versys examples are entirely unremarkable.
An Adjustable Screen
Moved by hand over a useful range. On a motorcycle designed around long days it is one of the small details that decides whether the bike gets used regularly.
