A Higher Riding Position
Ducati raised the pegs and lowered the bars on the SP, which suits a circuit and costs a little comfort on a long road.
Where the Switch Lives
Bolted to the stand bracket, low on the left, directly in the spray from the front wheel and within reach of every pressure lance aimed at a swingarm.
Refit Before Selling
A buyer expects the safety systems to work as described, and putting the standard switch back is a five-minute job that avoids the conversation.
Why the Position Cannot Change
The switch has to sense the stand, so it lives where the stand lives, which is the lowest and dirtiest part of the motorcycle.
On a Multistrada Loaded
A fully packed adventure bike puts a great deal of weight through the stand at every stop, which is why bent brackets are more common on the touring models.
Reversible in Five Minutes
The standard switch refits with the stand and nothing is consumed. There is no penalty at all for changing your mind.
Access
Usually straightforward: the connector sits within reach once the left fairing panel or belly pan is off, and on naked models it is often reachable without removing anything at all. Ten minutes covers most machines.
The Interlock Is Not Only the Stand
Ducati's starting logic combines the side stand, the clutch and the gear position sensor, and the controller decides from all three. Answering the stand input changes one term in that decision and leaves the others exactly as they were, which is why the clutch still has to be pulled in to start the engine.
The Current Monster
Ducati moved the Monster onto an aluminium front frame and a Testastretta engine, and the SP adds the suspension and brakes that make it a genuinely quick motorcycle. It is also light enough that the stand, its bracket and its spring are a noticeable proportion of what a track preparation removes.
