The JP CJP 072K is the fuel controller for a 690 SMC R whose engine has been modified far enough that the standard closed-loop correction has run out of authority.

Supermoto With Plates
Seventeen inch wheels on the enduro chassis. The SMC is ridden on the throttle and the rear brake, both worked constantly.
Fully Reversible
Unplug the unit and the motorcycle is standard. Nothing has been written to the original controller at any point, which is the structural advantage this shares with the cheaper module.
The Case for Paying a Specialist
A tuner with a dyno, a wideband and experience of that engine produces in an afternoon what an owner produces in a winter. Both routes end at the same unit.
Ambient Conditions
A map developed on a cold morning is slightly rich on a hot afternoon. The standard controller compensates for most of it and the last part is the price of a fixed map.
Reading a Wideband
The display shows the mixture in real time. Holding a steady load and watching the number is the entire technique, and it is considerably duller than it sounds.
Beyond Its Reach
Ignition timing, the rev limiter, traction control and the riding modes. All of them stay with the standard controller and none of them can be touched from here.
Backups Off the Laptop
Copy the good maps somewhere else. Laptops in paddocks get dropped, rained on and left behind, and a map is easier to lose than to recreate.
Two Bikes, One Unit
Not practical. The harness is model-specific and the map belongs to a configuration, so moving the unit between machines means a new harness and a new map.
When It Is Finished
When another session produces no change you can measure and none you can feel. Beyond that point the work is a hobby rather than an improvement, which is a perfectly good reason to continue.
