Panniers as an Option
Kawasaki's own cases mount to the subframe and keep the bike narrow. A great many SX owners fit them permanently.
An Adjustable Screen
Moved by hand over a useful range, which on a motorcycle bought for distance is used far more often than any electronic feature.
Plastic on a Hot Casting
Nothing else on the machine is asked to go from cold to exhaust temperature this often. The petals inside give up on a calendar rather than on an odometer, and once one splits the flow can travel back up the pipe.
Nothing Consumed
No gasket is destroyed and no fastener stretched. Everything removed goes back exactly as it came off whenever it needs to.
Fitted Cold
There is no reason to attempt this on a warm engine and every reason not to. Aluminium threads and hot castings are a poor combination.
What the Reeds Do
They allow air in one direction only, so exhaust pressure cannot push gas back towards the filter. When one cracks that protection disappears and the evidence turns up inside the airbox.
Not the Electrical Fault
The panel warning comes from the solenoid circuit and nothing else. Fitting the cover alone leaves the lamp exactly where it was, which surprises a number of people.
Heat, Not Distance
A garage queen's reeds age at the same rate as a courier's, because it is the warm-up cycles rather than the kilometres that finish them.
