The Small Faired Aprilia
Built for a licence class rather than for a lap record, the 457 is nonetheless the sort of machine that ends up in novice track sessions with its lights taped over.
Reversible
The standard block refits on its own fasteners with its own connector. Keeping it in a labelled bag is the whole of the requirement.
Fitted With the Yoke in Place
Nothing needs the front end dismantling. The block unbolts from above and the new one goes back in the same holes.
Insurance and Theft
A bike without a steering lock is easier to move. That is a genuine consideration for anybody storing a machine outside a locked workshop.
Steering Lock
It goes with the barrel. For a machine transported in a van that is irrelevant; for one parked in a street it is not.
Refitting
The standard block goes back on its own fasteners with its own connector, which takes about as long as removing it did.
Transponders
If the key talks to the engine controller, the aerial around the barrel is part of the starting circuit. Establish that before ordering, because the fix is separate.
Not a Security Product
Removing a lock does the opposite of securing a motorcycle. Anybody keeping a bike anywhere unsupervised should think about that first.
Transport
A machine in a van with no ignition lock cannot be started by somebody leaning over the tailgate. It also cannot be locked, which cuts both ways.
Race Harness Versions
Some models appear twice because a kit loom arranges the ignition side differently. Those are separate part numbers and the distinction is electrical rather than cosmetic. Fitting the road version to a race-wired machine does not work and is not a shortcut.
