DescriptionThe whole story▼
Fitting a new clutch lever to a Yamaha YZ450F takes a few minutes. Setting it up properly takes a few more, and those extra minutes decide how the clutch feels for the rest of the season. The YZ450F uses a cable-operated clutch, so the free play at the lever, the state of the cable and the angle of the perch all play their part. Accossato's C7266 is the folding clutch lever for the YZ450F of 2009 to 2022, CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a long blade drawn for four fingers.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the Yamaha YZ450F, model years 2009 to 2022
- Fits the original cable clutch perch in place of the stock lever
- Long blade with room for four fingers
- Joint allows the blade to fold forward rather than break in a fall
- Machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Black or blue blade, dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road and motocross use
Construction and Material Quality
Solid Ergal 7075 is the starting point for the C7266. Accossato machines the lever from it on CNC equipment in Italy and gives three reasons for choosing this high-strength aluminium alloy: strength, low weight and reliability. Two parts result. The dark base holds the pivot and the joint, and the blade, finished in black or blue, is both the part that meets your fingers and the part that can fold away. As on all of Accossato's off-road clutch levers, the blade is the longer type, with space for four fingers.
Free Play After Fitting
With the C7266 in place, pull it a few times and watch the cable move. There should be a small amount of free travel at the lever before the clutch starts to disengage. With too little, the clutch can begin to slip as it heats up during a moto; with too much, it may drag, so neutral is hard to find and the bike creeps forward in gear with the lever pulled. Set it with the cable adjuster, using the figure in the YZ450F service manual rather than guessing, and check it again after the first ride, once the cable has settled into its new position.
The same session is a good moment to look at the cable itself. A frayed end, a kink near the perch or a dry inner wire can make even a fresh lever feel heavy, and on a 450 that heaviness adds up over a race. Route the cable as it left the factory, lubricate it only if the manufacturer's instructions allow, and set the perch at an angle that suits riding on the pegs. When everything is right, the joint of the C7266 covers the days that do not go to plan: if the YZ450F lands on its left, the blade may fold forward, giving it a chance of surviving to be adjusted again next week.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the C7266 for the Yamaha YZ450F from 2009 to 2022, fitted at the original clutch perch. The folding B8265 brake lever reaches one year further back, to 2008, and adds green to the black and blue on offer here.
Road Approval
Accossato has no German ABE on record for the C7266. Its place is the motocross track and other closed off-road terrain.
Scope of Delivery
The package contains the C7266 lever only; cable and perch stay as they are on your bike.
