The displacement went up and the inlet camshaft learned to move. The air filter part number stayed where it was. KTM gave the 1390 Super Duke R more capacity than the 1290 it replaced and gave its intake side a variable timing arrangement, and Sprint Filter still lists the same element against it. That is not an oversight. An element is specified by the enclosure it seals — frame, depth, sealing face, aperture — and the enclosure came across the engine change untouched, which quietly tells you which parts of a motorcycle the factory considered settled.

Specified for an enclosure, not for a spec sheet

Filters are drawn around geometry. Frame dimensions, fold depth and the line a seal has to hold are what a supplier measures, and none of those quantities cares how many cubic centimetres are downstream or how the cams behave at four thousand revolutions. That is why one number can span an engine change that mattered a great deal to everything else about the motorcycle.

What a carried-over part is worth to a late buyer

Somebody buying a 2026 machine is a first-year customer for most of what is bolted to it, with all the unknowns that implies. Not here. This geometry has been in the catalogue since the 2020 machines, so the element arriving for a 1390 is a shape with several seasons behind it rather than a fresh drawing. The benefit remains small and specific — no drop-in filter makes a standard motorcycle noticeably faster, and this is not the exception. It is a lower starting restriction than a disposable panel, held there by washing rather than by replacement.

Care and cleaning

The PM190S is regenerated dry. Compressed air on the clean side, worked outward across the pleats, drives the collected material back through the face that stopped it, and that handles the ordinary interval. For a heavier or greasier load, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water comes off clear. Then let it dry in moving air for as long as it needs, without a heat gun, a hot surface or a flame anywhere near it, and refit it dry and untreated. Fitment & Compatibility

For the KTM 1390 Super Duke R, model years 2023 to 2026, mounted in the original airbox. Three machines are listed against this code: this one, the 1290 Super Duke R that preceded it and the 1290 Super Duke RR. The Fitment tab names all three with their year ranges. Since the name Super Duke R covers two different capacities here, the model year is the part of the order that has to be right.
