DescriptionThe whole story▼
The ZZR1400 was built for speed over long distances: a big four-cylinder machine with a fairing shaped to cut through the air and enough comfort to cross a continent. In North America it went by other names, first ZX-14 and later ZX-14R, and Accossato's list uses both ZZR 1400 and ZX-14R. A bike like this usually reaches a circuit under its own power, which puts one last filling station on the route before the paddock. For the ZZR1400 of 2006 to 2017, Accossato lists the FC143, a quick-release aluminium tank cap with a pin in one of six colours.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Kawasaki ZZR1400, 2006 to 2017
- Listed by Accossato as ZZR 1400 up to 2011 and as ZX-14R from 2012
- CNC-machined aluminium body
- Quick-closing pawl
- Pin in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Spare pawl sold separately
- No German ABE documented; for circuit days
Construction and Material Quality
The FC143 is made from aluminium in its entirety, machined on CNC equipment, and Accossato describes it as robust and durable. Its design is new. The quick-closing pawl gives quick access to the ZZR1400's filler and closes it again with one movement, and the pin on it is where your colour choice appears. Accossato also stocks the pawl as a separate item, should yours ever be damaged.
The Last Filling Station Before the Circuit
Riders who travel to a track day on a ZZR1400 often plan the final fuel stop as carefully as the route itself. Filling up at the last station before the circuit means arriving with a known amount in the tank, which helps because not every circuit sells fuel. Pick a station close enough that the ride from there to the gate is short and predictable. At the circuit, the engine then cools while you sign on, sit through the briefing and walk the pit lane, so the change to the FC143 can be made on a cold bike, in a quiet corner of the paddock and well away from the fuel store. Put the original cap in a closed bag in your luggage and check the fit of the new one after the first top-up. There is no need to keep a big tank brimmed for a day of sessions, as a part-filled tank carries less weight up high. Before the ride home, swap back once the engine has cooled again, and refill at the same station on the way out.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato has two lines for this bike, the ZZR 1400 of 2006 to 2011 and the ZX-14R 1400 of 2012 to 2017. Both give the FC143, so we list the ZZR1400 from 2006 to 2017, in our garage under ZZR1400 as well as ZZR1400 ABS. The same cap appears in our shop for the GTR 1400 and the Z1000. Please check the model year against Accossato's list.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE and no parts certificate on record for the FC143; its use is on closed circuits. For the ride to and from the track, the ZZR1400 relies on its factory cap, which normally locks with the ignition key.
