DescriptionThe whole story▼
A dry hardpack track changes through the day. In the morning the surface is dusty and loose; by the afternoon the main lines are polished, dark with rubber and smooth, while the rest of the track is covered in dust pushed off the line. On a GasGas MC 250F, the four-stroke 250 from the first KTM-era GasGas range, braking on that polished line calls for a light, gradual touch. The B8283 is Accossato's folding brake lever for the MC 250F of 2021 and 2022, machined in Italy from Ergal 7075.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the GasGas MC 250F, 2021 and 2022
- Fits the original front brake master cylinder in place of the stock lever
- Short blade for three fingers, per Accossato
- Anti-break joint, as Accossato calls it, gives the blade a chance to fold in a crash
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Dark base; blade in black, blue or orange
- Supplied singly
- No German ABE on record; for motocross
Construction and Material Quality
Braking on a slick surface is done in small increments, and a short lever suits that kind of work: the B8283 is laid out for three fingers, as Accossato designs its off-road brake levers. It is milled from Ergal 7075, working from solid on CNC machines in Italy, and the company's aims are strength, low weight and reliability, which is why it uses an aluminium alloy of such high strength. The lever comes in two parts, a dark base that stays on the master cylinder pivot and a coloured blade joined to it by a hinge.
Braking on a Polished Line
Braking on the polished part of the track feels secure until it suddenly doesn't: a little moisture, a patch of dust blown across the line or a bump under braking, and the front tyre lets go. Riders who race on such tracks learn to squeeze the brake progressively and to finish most of their braking before they lean the bike over. Those still learning find the limit the hard way, usually in the same corner, lap after lap, until the line or the technique changes.
When the front slides out in a right-hander, the MC 250F goes down on its right side and skids along the hard surface with the brake lever scraping on it. Unlike soft dirt, hardpack gives no cushion. On that surface the B8283's blade may fold forward on its joint instead of snapping. It is no guarantee against every crash, but with some luck the rider can lift the bike, rejoin and still have a working front brake for the next turn, which on a slick track is the one control nobody wants to lose.
Fitment and Compatibility
On the GasGas MC 250F, the four-stroke motocross bike, Accossato gives the B8283 for model years 2021 and 2022. It replaces the stock lever on the bike's own front brake master cylinder. The matching folding clutch lever is the C7283 for the same two years, available in red in addition to black, blue and orange.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE for the B8283. It is meant for motocross tracks and other closed courses, which is also where the MC 250F is ridden.
