DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ride an MT-07 out of almost any European town and you will meet them: one roundabout after another, each asking for the same short sequence of braking, a lower gear, a look at the traffic already circling and a clean exit. Much of that sequence runs through the left hand. The Accossato ESY688 is a clutch lever for the MT-07 of 2014 to 2024, machined from aluminium with an adjustable reach, and on Accossato's list it covers every version of the bike in that span.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Yamaha MT-07, 2014 to 2024
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable reach
- Standard blade approx. 138 mm; short blades in five colours, long in four
- CNC-machined aluminium with anodised finish
- Black hub, coloured blade
- Rigid, without a hinge
- No German ABE documented, for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The ESY688 is milled from aluminium on CNC machines and anodised afterwards. Black is kept for the hub, where the lever pivots and where the reach adjuster sits, and colour is kept for the blade. Neither tone is painted on; both are produced in the surface of the metal, so the constant contact of gloves does not rub them off. Along its full length the lever is rigid, with nothing in between that could add play between your fingers and the clutch.
A Chain of Roundabouts
A roundabout asks for a small, complete routine: brake on the approach, change down one or two gears, judge the gap in the traffic already on it, and either roll on or stop and go again. On a suburban ring road there may be ten of them in a few minutes, and every one of them involves the clutch at least twice. Much of the smoothness comes from how quickly and cleanly the left hand works. With the blade set close enough to cover with two fingers, a downshift on the approach needs no change of grip, and a stop at the give-way line followed by an immediate start becomes one fluid movement rather than a scramble. On the MT-07 the standard blade suits most riders for this kind of riding, while the short one keeps the other two fingers on the grip. Try a few settings on a quiet morning route before you settle on one.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESY688 for the MT-07 across the whole period from 2014 to 2024, with separate entries for 2014 to 2016, 2017 to 2020 and 2021 to 2024. For bikes up to 2020 there is a second option, the ESV04A, while for the later bikes the ESY688 is the clutch lever to choose. The EDF016 brake lever covers the same span on the right.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the ESY688 on the MT-07; the lever is sold for track use.
