DescriptionThe whole story▼
A café racer invites a particular kind of riding: a quiet road, a string of bends, and the V-twin burbling as you change down for the next one. The SV650X, Suzuki's café-styled version of the SV650, is at its most satisfying ridden that way, and good downshifts depend on the left hand as much as on the left foot. The Accossato ESS248 is a machined aluminium clutch lever for the SV650X of 2018 to 2022, with a reach you can set and a blade in one of seven colours.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the SV650X, 2018 to 2022
- Installs at the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable reach for a controlled release
- Long blade in blue, gold, green or orange for a lighter pull
- Short blade in the same four colours and in silver
- Standard length approximately 138 mm in all seven colours
- CNC-machined, anodised aluminium; black hub; no hinge
Construction and Material Quality
The ESS248 is machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodised in two tones, a black hub and a blade in your chosen colour. On a bike as visually tidy as the SV650X, that division works well: the hub, which houses the pivot and the reach adjuster, sits quietly next to the switch housing, while the blade adds as much or as little colour as you want. Anodising makes the colour part of the aluminium's surface rather than a coating on it. The lever is a fixed design, with no folding joint anywhere between hub and tip.
Downshifting a V-Twin Smoothly
A V-twin pushes back noticeably when the throttle closes, and changing down a gear without care can make the rear tyre skip or chatter as the engine is forced to spin faster. The cure is technique rather than hardware: pull the clutch in, select the lower gear, give the throttle a short blip, and let the lever out smoothly instead of allowing it to snap back. The last step is the one most affected by the lever's position. If the blade sits far out, the fingers tend to let go all at once; set closer, it can be released in a controlled sweep. On a winding road that means dozens of releases an hour, which is why some riders choose the long blade for its extra leverage. Those who work the clutch with two fingers will find the short blade the more natural shape. Either way, a smooth release keeps the SV650X settled on the way into the bend.
Fitment and Compatibility
The ESS248 is offered for the SV650X from 2018 to 2022 and fits at the original clutch mounting in place of the stock lever. Accossato's own entry for the X begins earlier, but the café racer only arrived for 2018, so that is where this product starts. On the other side of the bar, the EDF014 brake lever covers the same model years; ordered together, the two levers can share a colour and still differ in length if you prefer.
Road Approval
No ABE for German roads is documented for the ESS248, and we therefore sell it for track riding.
