Small-capacity racing is where a lot of riders learn what a stopwatch really rewards, and the 321RR is squarely in that world. This element belongs to it. The F1-85 is not the version of the filter for someone who wants a bit more of everything — it is the racing medium, sold at a little over two and a half times what the standard P08 for this same airbox costs, and that ratio is a fair warning about who it is meant for. Fitted to a machine that is otherwise entirely standard, it will spend its life delivering headroom nothing else in the intake can use.
Key Features
- Dry polyester racing medium rated at 85 microns
- Material flow of 15,000 l/m²/sec, roughly three times the standard road fabric
- Around double the filtering surface of other performance elements
- No oil, no soaking, no curing time before a session
- Occupies the standard airbox in the original panel position, without modification
- Cleaned with an air line between outings, guaranteed for two years
What the flow figure is measured on
Fifteen thousand litres per square metre per second is a property of the material, established on a sample of fabric rather than on a motorcycle. The intake of a road-registered 321RR is a system: an inlet aperture, a box of a certain volume, ducting, throttle bodies. The mat is one restriction among several, and once it stops being the tightest one, making it looser changes nothing further downstream. That is precisely why this medium goes onto machines whose intakes have been opened up elsewhere and why it is over-specified for one that has not. Nothing about the part makes a standard machine noticeably more powerful; on a standard bike the honest gain is the same as with any Sprint Filter element, namely a low intake resistance that stays low between cleanings.
Where the extra cost actually lands
In a race weekend the element is a consumable that is not consumed. It gets pulled after practice, blown through in the awning, and refitted for the next session with no oil to reapply and no drying time to schedule around. Over a season that is the difference between a box of spare panels and one part that keeps coming back, which is the arithmetic the price ratio has to be judged against — not against a single Saturday.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the clean face, directed outward, is the routine between sessions and takes a couple of minutes. For a deeper clean at the end of a meeting, lukewarm water and a mild detergent followed by a full rinse will do it, after which the PM242S F1-85 dries in open air with no heat and no flame anywhere near it, and goes back in dry. The maintenance document is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Kove 321RR of 2021 to 2026 and fitting its standard airbox. The NK321R shares the airbox and therefore this element, making two machines on the part number; the Fitment tab lists them.
