Size chart MT Helmets Atom 2 SV
| Size | Head circumference (cm) | Head circumference (inch) |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 53–54 cm | 20.9–21.3 in |
| S | 55–56 cm | 21.7–22.0 in |
| M | 57–58 cm | 22.4–22.8 in |
| L | 59–60 cm | 23.2–23.6 in |
| XL | 61–62 cm | 24.0–24.4 in |
| XXL | 63–64 cm | 24.8–25.2 in |

How to measure your helmet size correctly: Measure your head circumference with a flexible tape around the widest part of the head, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows. Measure 2–3 times and compare with the chart. Between sizes, usually choose the larger size.
Important note on fit
The right helmet should fit firmly without uncomfortable pressure points. A new helmet may feel a little tighter at first, as the inner lining adapts slightly over time.

Kaster C14 is the same helmet as the grey one with the volume turned up: matt black and grey shell, broad orange panels across the flank and the rear, orange arrow forms along the lower edge, and ATOM lettered on the side. Underneath it is MT's most complete mid-price modular, and its best feature is one nobody puts on a poster.
MT-FSOS and the anti-fog position
The visor opens with MT-FSOS — Fast Shield Opening System — and the mechanism has a defined automatic anti-fog position: a first detent that cracks the screen a few millimetres rather than swinging it open.
That detent is the most-used control on this helmet and the reason it works in winter. A visor lifted a few millimetres lets a thin stream of cold air across the inside of the screen and clears mist in seconds, without the buffeting or the noise of riding with the visor properly open — and without lifting the chin bar, which is what people otherwise do.
MT-ESLS, the second position
Separately, the MT-ESLS screen-release mechanism has its own ventilation position. The distinction is worth understanding: FSOS is how the visor opens in use, ESLS is how it comes off for cleaning or replacement — and MT gave the release a vent stop as well, so there is a way to run the screen slightly open that does not depend on holding a button.
The supplied Pinlock
A Pinlock DKS512 insert is in the box. The MT-V-35 screen also takes the FogOff FOG013.
A Pinlock is a second lens on two pins, sealed by a silicone bead; the trapped air keeps the inner surface above dew point so breath has nothing cold to condense on. It is the only thing that beats fogging when you are stationary — and the vent position above is the only thing that beats it when you are moving slowly. Together they cover the whole problem; separately, neither does.
About the Kaster C14 finish
Matt. The base alternates black and mid grey; a wide orange field runs across the flank and into the rear, with orange arrow shapes stepping along the bottom edge of the shell and a thin orange line over the crown. The chin bar is black, ATOM is lettered in white on the side.
Orange on a dark ground is, in daylight, about as legible as a non-fluorescent colour gets — a wavelength the eye resolves quickly, on a background dark enough to give it maximum contrast. It is not fluorescent and it does nothing at night, but in daytime traffic it is doing real work — and on a modular it sits on the chin bar as well, which is the part of a helmet a driver at a junction sees first.
ECE 22.06 and DOT
Mandatory across Europe since January 2024, and MT additionally lists DOT. The 22.06 tests 18 impact points rather than the 22.05's five, at multiple speeds, adds an oblique strike against an abrasive anvil for rotational loading, and imposes a Brain Injury Criterion limit.
P or J: not published
Under 22.06 a modular helmet is marked P (chin bar protective, ride closed), J (ride open) or both. MT does not publish which applies to the Atom 2 SV.
So: ride it closed. The chin bar is for lifting at a standstill. If you need a helmet you may legally ride open, check the label inside the strap rather than take our word or anyone else's.
The weight, honestly
Around 1,700 g, against roughly 1,500 g for a comparable full-face. A hinge, a latch and the reinforcement around them have to weigh something.
What softens it in practice is that a modular's mass sits low and central rather than out at the crown, so it does not act on your neck as strongly as the number suggests. It is still 200 g, and after four hours you know it.
Chin curtain and spoiler
A chin curtain is fitted as standard — it closes the gap under the chin bar, cutting the updraught and some of the noise from below — and a rear spoiler covers the exhaust of a ventilation system MT developed with fluid-dynamics work.
What a modular is genuinely better at
The case for a flip-up is not that it is safer or lighter, because it is neither. It is that a helmet you can open without taking off changes how a long day feels.
Fuel stops without unfastening a strap. Speaking to someone at a barrier or a border without shouting. Glasses put on after the helmet rather than threaded in blind. A drink at a viewpoint without the whole thing coming off and going somewhere. None of that is a safety argument, and we would not dress it up as one — but for touring and commuting it is the difference between a helmet you tolerate and one you stop noticing.
Retention and interior
The MT-MDTC closure is a micrometric ratchet with a double hook. The lining is fully removable and washable, and external parts detach individually so a damaged component is a spare rather than a new helmet.
Take the cheek pads out two or three times a season and wash them by hand in lukewarm water. Not in a machine and never in a dryer: the foam inside is closed-cell and comes back from a spin cycle permanently flatter, which quietly turns the helmet into a size too large.
What it does not have
- No safety rating. SHARP does not list the Atom 2 SV; no ADAC or Snell result exists.
- No published P/J marking.
- No tinted screen supplied.
- Orange pigment is among the least UV-stable. Store it out of direct sun.
