An Aluminium Frame at This Price
Cast, with the engine hung as a stressed member and no lower cradle at all. Nothing else built to the A2 limit does this, and it is the single decision that separates the 457 from everything it is sold against.
Forty-Seven Point Six
The A2 ceiling is a number set by legislators, not engineers. Aprilia treated it as a fixed input and spent the development budget on mass and chassis instead, which is the only rational response to a capped output.
Three Modes on a Learner Bike
Eco, Rain and Sport, with traction control that can be turned down or off. That was not a specification this class carried before, and every one of those settings is selected from the left-hand block.
The Only Bike in the Garage
A 457 is usually its owner's sole motorcycle, which means it goes out in February because there is nothing else to ride. Weekend superbikes never face that, and the switchgear on this bike ages accordingly.
Ergal Rather Than Ordinary Alloy
The 7075 grade carries zinc and reaches roughly twice the yield strength of the 6000 series aluminium used in most machined parts. It is harder to cut and it does not deform when the bike is dropped in a car park.
Two Hundred and Seventy Degrees
Aprilia gave the twin an uneven firing interval, which produces the pulse and the sound the format is bought for. It costs nothing to specify and it changes the entire character of the motorcycle.
Black or Titanium
Anodising converts the surface layer of the aluminium rather than coating it. Nothing chips off, nothing fades and there is no printed legend to wear away under a few seasons of gloves.
Two Fasteners and a Plug
The loom ends in Aprilia's own connector, so there is nothing to splice and nothing to reset. The old block comes off and this one takes its place in a quarter of an hour.
Assembled in Baramati
Piaggio's Indian plant builds the 457, which is how the price was reached without the engineering being watered down. The frame, the electronics and the chassis geometry came from Noale, and the places where the cost was actually saved are small ones like the moulded handlebar controls.
