DescriptionThe whole story▼
Accossato lists this clutch lever for one specific Super Ténéré: the XT1200ZE Raid Edition of 2018 and 2019, a special edition of the ZE. Bikes like it are bought to travel, and travel means unfamiliar roads, where a sudden stop can come at any time and the left hand has a job to do as well as the right. The Accossato ESY688 is machined from aluminium, anodised and adjustable for its distance to the grip, and it replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the XT1200ZE Super Ténéré Raid Edition, 2018 to 2019
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable reach to the grip
- Standard blade of about 138 mm in seven colours
- Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange or silver; long blade in four colours
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised, with black hub
- Fixed one-piece construction
Construction and Material Quality
Aluminium is the natural material for a hand lever: light, stiff for its weight and free from rust. Accossato machines the ESY688 from it on CNC equipment rather than casting it, which gives a dense, uniform part, and then anodises the lever for a hard surface. The hub, with its pivot bore and adjuster, is black; the blade is coloured to order. There is no joint along the blade, so the lever stays rigid when you grab it quickly, as you might in an emergency.
Clutch In, Brakes On
In a hard stop the brakes come first, yet the clutch matters too. As the bike slows, the engine is dragged down towards stalling speed, and if the clutch is still engaged when the wheels stop, the engine stalls and may jolt the bike just as you put a foot down. Pulling the clutch in during the last part of the stop avoids that and leaves you in control, ready to select first and move away if the traffic behind has not stopped. The movement has to be quick and complete, and it has to happen while your attention is on the front brake. That works when the clutch lever can be grabbed without looking and without stretching. Set the ESY688's reach so your fingers find the blade instantly, and practise emergency stops on an empty road or at a training day until clutch and brake happen together. On a heavy XT1200ZE Raid Edition with luggage, that composure pays off.
Fitment and Compatibility
The ESY688 appears in Accossato's list for a single entry, the XT 1200 ZE Super Ténéré Raid Edition, 2018 to 2019. For the ZE in general, Accossato's clutch lever is the ESC777, listed for 2014 to 2020, so if you are not sure which version you ride, compare your original lever with the product photos. The front brake lever, the EDF016, covers the XT1200ZE from 2014 to 2020.
Road Approval
The lever has no documented German road approval (ABE) and is offered for closed-circuit use.
