DescriptionThe whole story▼
The first SV650 arrived in 1999 with carburettors; in 2003 Suzuki replaced it with a fuel-injected version on a new frame, with sharper and more angular bodywork. Both generations were sold as a naked bike and as the half-faired SV650 S, and a great many of them are still on the road, often with their third or fourth owner. The Accossato ESS650 is the clutch lever that covers them, listed from 1999 to 2015: machined from aluminium, anodised with a black hub and a coloured blade, and adjustable for reach.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the SV650 and SV650 S, listed 1999 to 2015
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable distance to the grip
- Blades: short, standard (approximately 138 mm) and long
- Seven colours, all on a black hub
- CNC-machined aluminium with an anodised surface
- Fixed, hinge-free design
Construction and Material Quality
A garage in winter is often damp, and painted parts suffer there first. The ESS650 has no paint to suffer: Accossato machines it from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodises it, so its colour lies within a hard oxide layer grown from the metal itself. The hub, which takes the pivot and the reach adjuster, is always black; the blade is coloured. Built as one fixed piece, the lever has no folding joint in which moisture and old grease could collect over a long winter.
An Older SV, Looked After
Many first- and second-generation SVs have passed through several hands, and in that time their levers have often lived through a tip-over or two. A bent or scuffed clutch lever is one of the first things a new owner notices, because it sits in front of the left hand on every ride. Replacing it with the ESS650 is also the moment to set the reach for the rider who has the bike now, rather than for whoever owned it before. Take a few minutes over it: sit on the bike in your usual gloves, let the fingers fall naturally onto the bar, and move the blade until it lies under the first joints. Before the SV650 is laid up for the winter, a wipe of the lever and a check that it moves freely at the pivot are worthwhile; in spring the same check takes less time than hunting for the cause of a sticky clutch. Blue, gold, green and orange blades are made in all three lengths, silver in short and standard, black and red as standard levers only.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato divides the SV family into several entries for the ESS650: the naked SV 650 of 1999 to 2009 and of 2007 to 2009, and the half-faired SV 650 S of 1999 to 2010 and of 2007 to 2015. Taken together, the lever is listed for the SV650 from 1999 to 2015. The relaunched SV650 of 2016 onwards uses a different Accossato clutch lever, the ESS248, while the brake side of all these bikes is covered by the EDF014.
Road Approval
Without a documented German ABE, the ESS650 is sold by us for use on the track.
