DescriptionThe whole story▼

Riding a Monster 1200 R hard is as much about the downshifts as about the brakes. A big twin holds back strongly on its engine, and a clumsy release of the clutch after a downshift can make the rear tyre hop or step sideways just as you turn in. Smooth downshifts come from a precise left hand. The Accossato ESH011 replaces the clutch lever of the 2016 to 2019 Monster 1200 R with a lever CNC-machined from aluminium and adjustable in its reach, so you can let it out exactly as fast as you mean to.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the Monster 1200 R, 2016 to 2019
  • Uses the original clutch mounting
  • Reach adjustable near the pivot
  • Standard blade approximately 138 mm; short and long in selected colours
  • Aluminium, machined and anodised
  • Black hub; blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
  • Solid blade with no folding joint
  • Sold for track riding; no German ABE documented

Construction and Material Quality

Anodising is an electrochemical process. The aluminium part is placed in an electrolyte bath and a current is passed through it, which thickens the natural oxide layer on its surface. That layer is porous at first, which is what allows it to take up colour, and it is sealed afterwards. On the ESH011 the hub comes out black and the blade in the colour you pick. Before this, the lever has been CNC-machined from solid aluminium into one rigid piece without a folding joint.

Downshifts and the Rear Tyre

Braking into a corner on the Monster 1200 R, you might drop two or three gears in quick succession. Each time, the clutch goes in, a gear is selected, and the clutch comes back out while the engine speed rises to meet the road speed. Let it out too quickly and the engine braking of the twin reaches the rear tyre in one go. Let it out progressively and the load builds smoothly, keeping the rear settled while the front does the work.

A lever close enough to be operated with two fingers, the others staying on the grip, makes that progressive release easier to repeat corner after corner. The short blade suits this style and is available in silver, orange, green, blue and gold.

Fitment and Compatibility

Model years in Accossato's list: 2016 to 2019 for this clutch lever on the Monster 1200 R. For the right hand, the company names the EDF099 brake lever over exactly those years. If you ride the base Monster 1200 or the S version instead, look for their own listings, since each variant is sold as a separate item here.

Road Approval

This clutch lever lacks a documented German ABE. We therefore sell it for track use.
