Ride the first-generation CRF250 Rally the way it invites you to and you end up high: mountain gravel, pass roads, dry plateau tracks where the dust of a passing truck hangs for minutes. Altitude is where this small-capacity rally bike shows its one honest limitation. There is less air mass in every litre it takes in, so the engine is already working with a smaller charge than at sea level, and any restriction left in the intake comes off that smaller number rather than a generous one. Awkwardly, that is also where the dirtiest air tends to be. The Sprint Filter PM241T12 answers the second half of that pairing: a dry polyester special non-woven filtering to 7 microns at a rated 560 l/m²/sec.
Key Features
- Polyester special non-woven, used dry, retaining down to 7 microns for extreme off-road air
- Rated at 560 l/m²/sec — a finer medium holds back more and passes less
- Drops into the standard airbox in the original position: no adaptation, no fuelling change
- Never oiled, so there is no film that could travel further into the intake
- Compressed air brings it back into service; the same element returns to the bike
- Sprint Filter stands behind it for two years from the invoice date
Thin air and dusty air turn up together
The useful thing about a stated flow figure is that it does not move. The T12 gives up airflow from the first kilometre, by a known and fixed amount, and it keeps giving up the same amount for the rest of its working life because it is cleaned back to condition. A disposable element behaves the other way round: its restriction climbs silently as it fills, and it is at its worst right after the dusty stage, when you are furthest from a spare. On a machine with as little in hand as this one, a fixed known is worth more than a rising unknown.
When the P08 is the better balance
Plenty of these bikes never see a plateau. It is also bought as a small, frugal tourer with a big tank and a screen, ridden mostly on sealed roads with occasional gravel. The exchange is stated in the numbers: 80 microns at 5,050 l/m²/sec for the P08, 14 microns at 1,800 for the P14, 7 microns at 560 for the T12. More retention always costs flow — a trade, not a ranking. If your riding is largely asphalt, the P08 is the better-balanced element and there is nothing to apologise for; the P14 sits between them for dusty touring.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the clean side of the PM241T12, worked outwards, is the routine service and usually all it needs. When a long dry stage leaves more behind than air will shift, lukewarm water and a mild detergent finish the job; rinse until the water runs clear and give the element open air and enough time to dry completely, never heat and never a flame. Refit it dry and untreated — no oil at any stage. It is designed to last the life of the motorcycle, and the maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Built for the Honda CRF250 Rally, model years 2017 to 2020. The same element also fits the CRF250L of 2013 to 2020 — two machines in all, listed in the Fitment tab.
