The GSX-S1000 carries an inline four with a long racing pedigree behind it, and a big four is one of the few road engines where the airbox is genuinely working. Air demand rises with revs and with displacement, so the last third of the rev range is where every square centimetre of filtering surface is actually being asked for. That does not mean a filter is a power part — a drop-in element cannot give a standard motorcycle performance it never had. It means the opposite: on an engine that wants this much air, a loading filter has more room to take something away, and a Sprint Filter P08 PM236S is a way of making sure it does not. Low resistance, held there by cleaning rather than by replacement.
Key Features
- No oil in the dry P08 polyester, so nothing is carried onto the intake sensors
- Air passes at 5,050 litres per square metre per second through an 80-micron weave
- Roughly twice the filtering surface of other performance filters keeps resistance low
- A direct replacement inside the standard airbox: nothing modified, nothing remapped
- Washed and refitted rather than replaced, for the life of the motorcycle
- Warranty: two years from date of purchase
Where the surface area gets used
At light throttle almost any filter will do; the differences live at the top, where a big four spends much of its real life in short bursts — a slip road, an overtake, a couple of laps on an open day. Those are the moments when pressure drop across the element matters, and the moments a rider judges the bike by. Sprint Filter builds the P08 with roughly double the filtering surface of other performance filters, which is the honest way to keep resistance low: more area to pass through rather than a coarser weave. Restriction stays low without letting more grit past.
Dry, and why that matters upstream of the throttle bodies
The P08 is a single layer of woven polyester spun from threads of 22 microns and upwards, and it filters dry. There is no oiled film, so there is nothing that can be drawn onto the intake sensors, and no re-oiling ritual after a wash. Sprint Filter's comparison puts four-layer oiled cotton at 76.42 per cent of 100-micron particles retained against 93.13 per cent for the dry P08. The rest of the range trades the other way: P037 at 37 microns, P14 at 14, T12 at 7, each finer weave holding more and flowing less — 5,050 litres per square metre per second for the P08 against 1,800 for the P14. The P08 is the road-and-track choice, not the fine-dust one.
Care and cleaning
For the PM236S the standard service is compressed air from the clean side, blown outwards; it goes back in dry. Should it need more, lukewarm water and a mild detergent will do — rinse until the water is clear, then dry it fully in open air, heat and flame kept away. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Suzuki GSX-S1000, 2022 to 2026, a direct replacement in the standard airbox with no modification required. Four machines in the Suzuki range share this element; the full list is in the Fitment tab.
