The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
One model year, one purpose. The 25° Anniversario marked twenty-five years of the Monster with a numbered plaque and a paint scheme pointing back at the 1993 original, and the catalogue reflects exactly that: 2019, and nothing else. A machine like this is not bought to be altered, which sets an unusual condition for a service part — it has to improve something and leave no trace of itself. The CM61S does that by going precisely where Ducati's own element goes, inside a sealed airbox, with nothing visible from outside.
Key Features
- Polyester cloth with nothing applied to it — dry when new and dry after every wash
- A filtering area of roughly twice what other performance filters provide
- No adapter, no exposed cone, no aftermarket appearance anywhere on the bike
- Interchanges with the factory panel in the standard airbox, with fuelling untouched
- Cleaned and reused, so no part number ever has to be reordered
- Two years of warranty from the date of sale
Correct in twenty years, not just now
Numbered editions get looked over. Someone inspecting this bike a long time from now finds a properly filtered engine, an airbox that has never been opened up, and no gap in the history where a discontinued panel could not be found. That last point is the practical one: a single-year model has a short parts tail, and an element washed instead of replaced steps around the problem entirely — helped by a code shared with twenty-three other Ducatis.
Standing still is its own duty cycle
Bikes kept for what they are cover few kilometres and spend long stretches parked. Paper ages whether or not it is used, and a service interval written in kilometres arrives years after the calendar says it should. A washable element sidesteps that argument: clean it whenever the bike comes out, refit it, and stop weighing up whether a new part is worth buying. What it will not do is add power — that is not why anyone buys one of these.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air through the element from its clean face outwards will handle almost everything this bike ever asks. If it does need washing, use hand-warm water with a small amount of gentle soap, rinse until the water comes off clear, and allow several hours of drying in still air. Heat must not be used to shorten that, least of all a flame. It is refitted dry, with no oiling stage. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is downloadable from the Downloads tab.
