The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Every other machine on this fitment list has stopped being built. The Hypermotard 950 has not: its window runs from 2019 to 2025, the only entry in the whole CM61S catalogue reaching the present day, and it takes in the standard bike, the RVE with its graffiti paint and the SP on its Öhlins. Ducati changed suspension, wheels and livery across those versions and left the intake alone. One element, three specifications, seven model years.
Key Features
- A dry cloth, never dressed with oil at any point in its life
- Approximately twice the filtering area of other performance filters
- Polyester fibres from ø 22 microns held at a repeatable spacing by the weave
- Interchangeable with the factory panel in the standard airbox — no adapter and no fuelling work
- Washable, and designed to outlast the service life of the motorcycle
- Two years of warranty, counted from purchase
The SP asks for it most often
All three versions run the same 937 cc twin, but suspension changes riders. Better damping means more corner speed and an earlier throttle, and each of those roll-ons is a transient — a sudden call for more air, which is where a partly blocked cloth costs the most. On the standard 950 the same effect exists; it is simply asked for less often. On neither bike does the element add power, and it would be dishonest to suggest otherwise.
Buying into a range still in production
A part number attached to a current model is a part number that stays stocked, and this one is attached to twenty-three others besides. Owners who move from a 939 to a 950, or from the standard bike to the SP, carry the same element across. Cleaned rather than consumed, it can genuinely be a single purchase spanning more than one motorcycle. That is an argument about supply rather than about specification, and on a component meant to last it is the argument that decides matters years later.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air at the clean face of the CM61S, blowing outward, is the normal service. Where dirt has been ground in, wash it in tepid water with a small quantity of mild soap, rinse until nothing runs off it but clean water, and let it dry right through in moving air. No heat is permitted for drying and no flame under any circumstances. It goes back in dry; there is no oil at any stage. The cleaning instructions are attached under Downloads.
