DescriptionThe whole story▼
A 2D Big Dash is one of the more expensive single components on a race bike's dashboard, and a crash that would leave a cheap analogue gauge merely scratched can write off its LCD screen outright if the unit is left exposed. Melotti Racing's Impact Absorber for the 2D Big Dash is built around that one risk: a case machined from solid aluminium alloy with a technopolymer front panel over the screen, mounted elastically on the subframe so the dashboard itself absorbs less of the shock.
Key Features
- Impact absorber for the 2D Big Dash dashboard, protecting it in a crash
- Machined from solid aluminium alloy
- Front panel in technopolymer protects the LCD screen
- Quick-fix mounting for the front panel, no tool needed, taken directly from racetrack practice
- Minimal bulk to fit on racing subframes
- Elastic mounting absorbs impacts and vibration without damaging the dashboard's electronics
- Anodised black finish
Construction and Material Quality
Melotti Racing machines the case for this absorber from solid aluminium alloy and fits a technopolymer front panel over the opening to shield the 2D Big Dash's LCD screen without blocking the rider's view of it. The front panel uses a quick-fix mounting taken directly from racetrack practice, so no tool is needed to remove it for cleaning or replacement, and the case itself is kept deliberately compact so it does not foul the tighter space around a racing subframe.
Built Around One Dashboard, Not a Generic Shell
Rather than build one case to loosely fit several dashboard shapes, Melotti Racing designs each Impact Absorber in its range around one specific unit, in this case the 2D Big Dash, so the elastic mounting between the case and the dashboard is tuned to that unit's own weight and shape rather than a compromise average. That elastic mounting is the part doing the real work in a fall: it lets the dashboard move slightly inside the case to soak up a shock and vibration rather than transmitting it straight into the electronics.
Fitment and Compatibility
This Impact Absorber is built for the 2D Big Dash dashboard specifically, not for a particular motorcycle, so it fits on any bike where that dashboard has been installed on a racing subframe. Melotti Racing also sells a replacement front screen panel and an anti-reflective, scratch-proof film for this same absorber, both separately.
Road Approval
No type approval or test certificate is on file for this dashboard protector. Melotti Racing sells it for use on a racetrack or closed circuit, and a bike fitted with a race dashboard set up this way is not permitted on public roads in Germany without separate registration.
