DescriptionThe whole story▼

A mountain pass has two halves, and the way down asks more of the brakes than the way up. On a long descent with luggage, a Multistrada 1260 is slowed into bend after bend, heat builds up in the pads and discs, and some of it reaches the fluid. Fresh fluid copes; old fluid that has absorbed water can boil, and the lever suddenly travels further. For the front brake fluid reservoir of the Multistrada 1260, Accossato lists the TS003 for 2019 and 2020, made of anodised aluminium.

Construction and Material Quality

The TS003 begins as aluminium, is milled on CNC machines and then anodised in red, black, silver, gold, blue, orange or green. It is intended for the standard front reservoir of every bike on Accossato's list, so on the Multistrada 1260 only the cap changes, while master cylinder, lines and the rest of the brake remain exactly as Ducati fitted them. Beneath the old cap lies a rubber diaphragm or seal. It should be clean and flexible; if it is torn or has hardened, replace it before closing the reservoir.

The Long Way Down From the Pass

Riders who spend their holidays in the mountains know the routine for descents: a lower gear, engine braking, and the brakes applied firmly and then released instead of being dragged all the way down. Technique is only half of it; the other half is the condition of the fluid. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, and the more water it holds, the lower the temperature at which it boils. That is why the owner's manual of the Multistrada 1260 gives an interval for renewing it, and why a mountain holiday is a good reason to check when it was last done. A new cap does not replace that job, but the two fit together well. For the TS003, turn the handlebar until the reservoir is level, spread an old towel across tank and fairing, and have a wet cloth to hand for any drop, as the fluid damages paint. Keep the reservoir open only as long as needed, check the level between the marks, fit the cap and tighten it gently. Pull the lever several times at a standstill before the first ride. And if it ever feels soft on a descent, stop in a safe place and let the brakes cool before you continue.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's entries for the TS003 cover the front brake reservoir of the Multistrada 1260 and 1260 Touring from 2019 to 2020. Bikes from the first 1260 year, 2018, are not on the list for this cap, so compare their reservoir with the applications before ordering. At Inter-Pace the TS003 is also catalogued for the Multistrada 1200 S, the Hypermotard 821 and the Aprilia Caponord 1200. For the clutch of the 1260, Accossato makes the FP007 cover.

Road Approval

No ABE or test certificate for the TS003 is known to us, so we list it for competition use and the track.
