Search the Sprint Filter range for the CFMOTO MT 450 and a single article comes back. Its stablemates on the same 450 platform each offer a choice — the NK, the SR-S and the SS can be had with a standard element, a 14-micron one and a racing one — while the MT is listed for this medium alone. That shortens the decision considerably. There is no second specification to weigh against the first, no finer or coarser alternative to argue over, and no table to read twice. Either the disposable paper panel keeps its job, or this element takes it over permanently.
Key Features
- 7-micron dry nonwoven with a rated flow of 560 l/m²/sec
- Dry from the first fitting to the last: no oil, no coating, no dosing
- Slots into the series airbox in the panel's place, no cutting and no remap
- Around twice the filtering area of the usual performance element
- Cleaned with compressed air rather than replaced
- Two-year warranty, and a working life Sprint Filter ties to the motorcycle's own
A list of one is still a comparison
With nothing else listed for this model, the thing worth comparing against is the part already in the airbox. A paper panel is a consumable that does its job and is then thrown away; it cannot be washed, because washing destroys it, and it cannot be inspected usefully either, since by the time you have it in your hands you have usually already bought its successor. This element inverts that arrangement. It is bought once, taken out at service intervals, blown through and put back. Over the years an MT 450 stays on the road, that turns a recurring line on the maintenance list into a single entry.
Why the extreme medium and nothing else
A range that lists one medium for a model and three for its siblings is making a statement about where it expects the machine to be. Take that as the reading it is rather than a rule: on dry sealed roads the 7-micron nonwoven asks for flow it will not repay, and a coarser element would serve better. Where the surface breaks up, the balance turns the other way and the finer medium earns its restriction. What does not change either way is the honest part — a drop-in filter does not make a standard MT 450 noticeably stronger. It gives back a restriction that resets to its starting value at every clean, which is a modest thing to buy and a real one.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air applied to the clean side and directed outwards handles the routine service; the debris leaves along the path it entered by. When the element is greasy rather than dusty, lukewarm water with a little mild detergent lifts it, followed by a rinse until nothing more comes away. Dry it in moving air and give it the time it needs — never with heat guns, radiators or open flame — then fit it dry, with nothing applied to the surface. The maintenance sheet for the PM270T12 is in the Downloads tab on this page.
