Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 Air Filter for Racing – Gaokin Flame (2017–2026) CM136S F1-85

Aperture and retention are not the same property, and this element is the proof inside Sprint Filter's own range. Its weave is rated at 85 microns, which is coarser than the 80 microns of the standard element for the same airbox — and on the same test, with 100-micron particles, it retains more: 95.22 % against 93.13 %. A filter medium is not a sieve with one number, and the hole size does not predict the result.

Why the two numbers do not track each other

Retention is a property of the medium as it is built — how the threads are laid, how deep the path through them is, how particles behave once they are inside it — while the aperture describes one dimension of the geometry. Change the weave and both move, but they do not move together, and neither can be calculated from the other. This is the reason the range cannot be read as a ladder from coarse to fine: the numbers that matter are measured for each medium separately, and the catalogue prints them rather than deriving them.

What that means for a Flame

Practically, it means this element is not a compromise version of the standard one, and it is not a fine one either — it is a different medium with its own two figures. The rest of the proposition is familiar: dry construction, nothing to spray, nothing to migrate onto an intake sensor, and a panel that is washed rather than bought again. And it is not power. In an unmodified airbox the CM136S F1-85 leaves a standard Flame exactly as strong as it was; what an owner gets is a lower and steadier intake restriction across the service interval, at roughly two and a half times the price of the standard weave.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air on the clean face, worked outwards, is the routine service. After a dirty season lukewarm water and a mild detergent do what air will not, rinsed until the runoff is clear. Dry the panel in moving air at room temperature and in no other way — heat guns, radiators and flames destroy a woven medium invisibly. It goes back in dry, with nothing applied to it.
