Of the five machines this element is catalogued for, the Panigale V2 is the one whose ordinary use can actually spend a rating of 15,000 l/m²/sec. Not because it is quickest, but because of how it gets ridden: consecutive laps, the same three or four gears coming round again, the throttle held wide rather than brushed, twenty minutes at a time. That is the condition the racing cloth was drawn up for — and it comes with three requirements attached.
Key Features
- Dry woven polyester with no oil in it when new and no oiling step after any wash
- 85 µm between the threads at 15,000 l/m²/sec, the highest flow figure Sprint Filter publishes
- 95.22 % retention of 100-micron particles under measurement, with the P08 weave at 93.13 %
- Threads from ø 22 microns across — a fibre dimension, not the gaps between fibres
- Fits the series airbox as the paper element did, with no modification and no remapping
- Serviced instead of consumed, made to last the motorcycle; two years of warranty
The three requirements
The first is that the sustained running is real and repeated: track days across a season, not the memory of one. The second is that the element will genuinely be taken out and blown through, since the return on a washable filter is collected in maintenance and nowhere else. The third is the one nobody enjoys: an aperture of 85 µm is five microns more open than the standard weave, and open in every hour the bike runs, commute and winter included. Where all three hold, this is the right medium. Where one does not, the P08 at 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec covers the same motorcycle for well under half the outlay, with a P14 at 14 µm and 1,800 listed for dusty air.
What is not on offer
Lap time. A filter sitting in an unmodified airbox does not make a standard Panigale V2 noticeably stronger, and anybody quoting gains from an element swap is describing something other than an air filter: intake tract, throttle bodies, injection and exhaust were homologated as one piece of work with a filter already in the path. What changes is the behaviour of that single component over time. A paper panel is at its least restrictive the day it goes in and rises from there until it is binned; this one has a state it returns to, and compressed air puts it back there at will.
Care and cleaning
Between sessions, air is enough: hold the line to the face that looks at the engine and push the load back out the front, not deeper into the weave. Twice a year, or after a wet meeting, warm water with a mild washing-up liquid takes off what air will not; rinse until the water clears. The PM279S F1-85 then dries in open air alone, heat guns, radiators and flames kept away, and is refitted bone dry. The cleaning sheet sits in Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Ducati Panigale V2 of 2025 and 2026, the 890 cc machine. Ducati used the same name from 2020 to 2024 for a 955 cc bike with its own airbox and part number, so capacity decides the order alongside the year. Five models share this element; the Fitment tab lists them all.
