Straight Into the Silencer

Some layouts put the case at right angles to the pipe that feeds it: a side-mounted silencer on a machine whose collector points rearward, or an underseat can fed from below. At sixty millimetres that final corner goes directly into a Spark universal case with no adapter between them.

Collector, bend, silencer. It is the shortest parts list a custom system can have.

The Sweep Is the Constraint

Centreline radius grows with the tube, so a right angle at sixty takes far more room than one at forty — roughly a hundred and sixty millimetres square with the tangents counted. On a motorcycle that is a large object competing for space with the wheel and the subframe.

Loss Does Not Scale With Size

Pressure loss through a bend depends on the ratio of radius to diameter, not on the absolute figures, so a large right angle is not proportionally worse than a small one. What does scale is the recirculating region behind the corner: it grows with the tube and takes longer to reattach.

Give it a straight afterwards if the layout allows one.

Where the Weight Is

A right angle at this diameter is around half a kilogram, and it usually sits at the back of the motorcycle. That is the worst place on the machine for mass, and it is worth counting when a build is being compared against a bike-specific system on the scales.

Setting Up Without Magnets

Austenitic stainless is non-magnetic, so magnetic angle blocks and clamps do nothing here. A large right angle needs proper mechanical support while it is tacked — vee blocks, clamps and a flat bench — because its own weight will pull a tack apart.
