What the Measurements Say

The gain here is 0.8 PS (0.6 kW) at 7,400 rpm and 0.6 Nm at 7,300 rpm, while peak power reads 101.3 PS against the standard 101.5 PS. In other words: the curve fills slightly in the upper mid-range and the very top is a fraction lower. On a Euro 5 parallel twin those are the numbers a type-approved slip-on produces, and inflating them would not make the exhaust better.

What is genuinely large is the 1.56 kg. That is the reason to fit this part, together with the sound — Akrapovic describes a deep, sporty rumble from the 895 cc twin, which the standard system suppresses almost entirely.

One Part, Two Different Motorcycles

The F 900 R and the F 900 XR share an engine, a frame and a subframe, but they are ridden by different people. The R is a naked bike; the XR carries a fairing, a taller screen, longer suspension travel and factory luggage mounts, and is bought as a light sport-tourer. The silencer mounting point is identical on both, which is why one part number covers them.

What that means in practice is that an XR keeps its pannier rails and an R keeps its clean tail. The installation is quoted at 60 minutes on either, longer than a typical slip-on because the standard unit is bolted at three points rather than clamped.
