Set the four materials out as a ladder and the rungs look evenly spaced. They are not. From the standard weave to the fine nonwoven, the rating falls from 80 microns to 14 while the rate falls from 5,050 l/m²/sec to 1,800 — about a third of the flow given up for a very large change in rating. From there to this mat, the rating falls from 14 microns to 7 while the rate falls from 1,800 to 560 — about a third again, for a change in rating a tenth the size of the first. Two steps of similar cost, buying wildly different amounts.
Key Features
- Dry nonwoven polyester at 7 microns, the finest material in the Sprint Filter range
- Rated at 560 l/m²/sec, roughly a ninth of the 5,050 quoted for the standard weave
- The last step of the ladder: nothing finer exists above it, and nothing slower
- Dry construction with no oil, so no film can migrate into the intake tract
- Replaces the original panel in the standard RR airbox without modification
- Cleaned rather than discarded; two years of warranty from the purchase date
Where the ladder stops being linear
Most of the retention available in this range has already been collected by the time the rating reaches 14 microns; the move to 7 costs as much flow again for the fraction that remains. Cumulatively the standard weave and this mat differ by a factor of about nine, which is the widest gap anywhere in the programme. That factor is not a defect in the material. It is what a mat drawn for air you can see has to charge in order to do its work.
What that means for an RR
It means the decision has to be made against conditions, not against the specification of the motorcycle. So unless the RR in question actually meets air with a mineral load in it, the standard weave is the sounder element, and the middle nonwoven is there if the conditions are real but occasional. None of the four is a power part: a drop-in element does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger. This one deliberately spends flow to buy retention, and it should only be bought where that retention is needed.
Care and cleaning
A PM190T12 fills faster than a coarser material, so expect the airbox to be opened more often. The routine is unchanged: compressed air on the clean side, driven outward, so the load leaves through the face that stopped it. When air is not enough, lukewarm water and a mild detergent, rinsed through until the water is clear. Then moving air and time — never a hot-air gun, a radiator or a flame, which end these mats faster than any dust — and refit dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the KTM 1290 Super Duke RR, 2021 to 2023, in the original housing. The code covers three machines in total, the two 1290 Super Dukes and the 1390 Super Duke R, each with its own years in the Fitment tab. All four materials for this airbox cover the same three, so the listing offers no guidance on which to pick — order by element code and build year, and choose the material on the air.
