By Sprint Filter's own account, its filters are the most widely used in MotoGP, Moto3, World Superbike, Supersport and Superstock. That is a manufacturer's statement about where a company's products end up, and it is worth what such statements are worth: it says nothing measurable about what this element will do in the airbox of a Challenger Dark Horse. The part that can be checked sits on the specification sheet, and it is a better guide than any paddock.
Key Features
- Dry polyester weave, unoiled at manufacture and unoiled at every service afterwards
- An 85-micron rating with 15,000 l/m²/sec of rated flow per square metre of cloth
- Retention put at 95.22 % of 100-micron particles against 93.13 % for the 80-micron weave
- Seats in the unmodified series airbox: no adapter, no cutting, no change to the map
- Roughly double the filtering cloth of comparable performance elements
- Blown clean and reused, built for the life of the motorcycle, two-year warranty
A measurement and a reputation are different things
The figures were produced under stated conditions and can be checked, argued with, or set beside a rival's. Retention of 95.22 per cent of 100-micron particles, with the standard cloth at 93.13 and four-layer oiled cotton at 76.42 in the same comparison. A rated 15,000 l/m²/sec through clean fabric. That is the whole of what is being asserted about the medium. Everything else — the championships it appears in, the teams that buy it — is provenance, and provenance is a reason to open the specification sheet rather than a reason to skip past it.
Which leaves the ordinary questions
Those are answered by the machine, not by the brand. A Challenger Dark Horse used for distance on sealed roads is well served by the standard panel; this cloth is drawn for sustained work at large throttle openings, and away from that its extra ceiling is capacity paid for and left standing. No element of any rating adds power to a standard motorcycle either — the airbox was never what held it back, and a drop-in panel changes nothing the engine was developed around. The benefit worth buying is a low, repeatable intake restriction on a part that is washed instead of bought again.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, directed at the clean side and driven outward through the weave, returns most of what has been collected and sends it out the way it came. Deposits that air leaves behind want lukewarm water and a mild washing-up liquid, rinsed until nothing further comes away. Drying happens in open moving air at room temperature and by no other method, because heat ends these elements long before a hand would call them hot. The PM237S F1-85 goes back into the airbox dry and untreated. Downloads holds the maintenance sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Indian Challenger Dark Horse of 2020 to 2026. Two further machines carry the identical code over the same model years, the Challenger and the Challenger Limited, so the fitment list runs to three entries. Confirm your year in the Fitment tab.
