Everything on the far side of an air filter is either measuring something or metering something. Throttle bodies, injectors, the sensors that report back to the engine management — all of it sits downstream, in air that has just passed through the element. That is an argument for a dry filter which has nothing to do with filtration: it is not about what the medium stops, but about what it declines to add.

An oiled filter carries a dose; this one does not

Oiling a gauze filter is a judgement made by hand, and it is a judgement nobody can verify afterwards. Too little and the medium is not performing to the number on its label, because the tack is what holds the fine fraction. Too much and the surplus does not stay put; it is drawn along by the airflow into whatever the intake feeds. Between those two errors sits a correct amount that looks identical to both. The P08 removes the entire question. It leaves the factory dry, it is cleaned dry, and it goes back dry, so the variable never enters the airbox.

A decision taken once

The 350 range on this list spans model years 2020 to 2026, and the element is specified for the working life of the machine. That turns a repeating service choice into a single one: the intake is set up the way you want it and then stays that way, with cleaning rather than reordering keeping it there. What it is not is a power part. A drop-in element does not make a standard ZT 350-V noticeably quicker, and the useful claim is the smaller, truer one — a lower intake restriction that keeps returning to the same figure.

Care and cleaning

The SM277S is serviced with compressed air aimed at its clean face and blown outwards. When the deposit is oily rather than dusty, lukewarm water with mild detergent lifts it and a full rinse finishes the job. It then dries in circulating air, at ambient temperature, well away from any heat source or flame, and is refitted dry with nothing applied to the weave.
