More GSX-S125s are ridden by people who do not own them than almost anything else in the range: a riding-school machine, a rental machine, a first bike handed down within a family. That changes what the airbox sees. Lessons and city work mean a low average speed, many cold starts and a long engine-running time for every hundred kilometres covered — none of which shows on the dash. The Sprint Filter P08 PM250S will not make a 125 faster, and nothing fitted inside an airbox will. What it gives is an element that whoever has the keys this week can look at, clean and refit, instead of a paper cartridge that loads up quietly until somebody orders a new one.
Key Features
- The weave holds at 80 microns; airflow, 5,050 litres per square metre per second
- No oil in the dry P08 polyester, so nothing travels onto the intake sensors
- Double the filtering surface, near enough, of other performance filters
- Element for element in the standard airbox — no modification, no remap, no change to homologation
- Compressed air is the normal service; the same element goes back in
- The date of purchase starts two years of warranty
Engine hours, not odometer readings
A filter ages by the volume of air that has passed through it, and that has only a loose relationship with the number on the dash. A 125 doing lessons and short trips runs a long time to cover very little ground, in the dirtiest air a motorcycle meets: the brake and tyre dust of the traffic in front. Two GSX-S125s on identical mileage can be nowhere near each other in intake condition. No service interval can know that, so the useful answer is to look — and a washable element makes looking free. An inspection with no purchase attached does not get deferred.
Dry polyester, and what the figures mean
The P08 is a single layer of woven polyester, spun from threads of 22 microns and upwards, and it works dry. Oiled cotton gauze filters with a tacky film — a consumable sitting directly upstream of the throttle body, and awkward on a machine several different people service. Sprint Filter measured four-layer oiled cotton holding 76.42 per cent of 100-micron test particles against 93.13 per cent for the dry P08. Where the air is harder the range weaves finer: P037 at 37 microns, P14 at 14, T12 at 7. Every step finer costs flow — the P08 passes 5,050 litres per square metre per second, the P14 passes 1,800. A trade, not a ranking.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side outwards is a two-minute job, repeatable as often as anyone likes — useful on a bike several people ride. A wash for the PM250S is lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear, then open air until it is completely dry. Never heat, never a flame; refit dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Suzuki GSX-S125, 2017 to 2026, a direct replacement in the standard airbox. The same element also serves the other small-capacity Suzukis built around this airbox and one machine from another marque; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
