DescriptionThe whole story▼
Fitted to the Ducati Panigale 959 (2016–2019), the Öhlins SD 068 replaces the standard unit outright. A steering damper is insurance that should not be felt until it is needed.
Key Features
- Damper stroke 68 mm
- Built for the Ducati Panigale 959 (2016–2019); fits without modification
About the Steering Damper Blackline Range
Öhlins offers the finish for machines where a gold damper would sit awkwardly against the fork tops. Damping principle, adjustment range and mounting are unchanged — only the finish differs. The Blackline steering damper is the standard Öhlins unit in black anodising.
What This Means on the Panigale 959
Track use raises oil temperature quickly, and a damper that fades takes confidence with it. The 2016–2019 generation kept the same chassis dimensions throughout, so one Öhlins number serves the whole run. At 959 cc the Panigale 959 makes enough torque to load the rear hard on corner exit, and the damper has to keep the wheel in contact while that happens.
Stability and Feel
Damper stroke comes to 68 mm on this number. Most riders settle within the first third of the range for road use. The adjuster changes the shape of the damping curve rather than adding a constant drag.
Construction and Material Quality
The damper body is machined and anodised in the same plant as the shock absorbers. Seals are specified for temperature stability rather than for the lowest unit cost. Öhlins machines its own critical components instead of buying them in, and the tolerances are where the money goes.
Fitment and Compatibility
Öhlins releases SD 068 against the Ducati Panigale 959 (2016–2019). The number is shared with 12 sibling models that use the same mounting and settings, and this listing covers the Ducati Panigale 959.
Road Approval
Road approval: ABE (Germany). The unit is covered by a German ABE for the Ducati Panigale 959, so no individual inspection or entry in the vehicle documents is required. The approval document ships with the product.
Important Notes
- Mounting hardware differs between models, so the steering damper you receive may look different from the photograph.
Fitting and Setup Service
Öhlins recommends that its suspension is fitted by an authorised service centre. We are one, and we do the work here: installation, servicing and a proper setup. Ask us and we will include it with the order.
