The Renamed Street Scrambler
Triumph reorganised the modern classic range and the Street Scrambler became the Scrambler 900. Mechanically almost nothing changed.
Sixty-Five Horsepower
From the 900 twin with a torque curve that peaks very low. It is unhurried, and on the sort of road these get ridden on that is entirely appropriate.
One Connector
Triumph's own plug, pre-wired, with nothing spliced. The exchange takes about as long as finding the connector under the tank does.
Keep the Valve
It refits with its own connector and it is worth something to the next owner. Nothing about this conversion damages it.
What Actually Improves
The noise on a trailing throttle, the absence of a fault code and one fewer perishable component on a hot cylinder head. That is the complete list.
Keeping the Motorcycle Sellable
A stored fault code on a modern Triumph is visible to any dealer with a laptop, and it costs more at trade-in than the part costs new. Answering the circuit properly avoids the deduction.
Road Bikes Do Not
On a registered motorcycle in a market that mandates the system, this is a change with legal consequences. Nobody should fit one without understanding that, whatever a forum post claims.
Older Triples Fail It Anyway
On bikes past a decade the solenoid itself gives up, and the resulting fault is identical to the one an owner creates by removing it. A fair number of these parts are fitted as repairs rather than as modifications.
