DescriptionThe whole story▼
Triumph gave the 660 triple oval header inlets, which is a problem for anyone building an aftermarket system: an oval port needs an oval flange, and an oval flange has to become a round tube somewhere. Akrapovic solved it with hydroforming — the header tubes are tapered from oval to cylindrical form on a hydroforming machine rather than welded from sections.
Key Features
- Header tubes hydroformed from oval to round to meet the engine's oval inlets, with bushes and flanges designed for the same purpose
- 3.3 kg lighter than the standard system — a 41 per cent saving
- Black-coated high-grade titanium muffler outer sleeve, other parts in stainless steel
- Specially tuned resonator in the link pipe, which is where the deep and full note comes from
- Gains of 3.5 hp (2.6 kW) and 2.5 Nm, both at 10,000 rpm, measured against a standard Trident 660
- Plug-and-play with no remapping needed, unusual for a full racing system
- One part covers the Trident 660, the Daytona 660 and the Tiger Sport 660
Hydroforming, and Why It Is Here
Forming a tube from an oval cross-section into a round one without wrinkling it is the kind of problem that is normally solved by welding two pieces together and accepting a step in the gas flow. Hydroforming does it in one piece, using internal fluid pressure to push the metal into the die. The result is a continuous transition and no weld seam at the point where the gas is moving fastest.
The resonator in the link pipe is the other piece of engineering worth naming. It is tuned rather than generic, and on a three-cylinder engine that is what separates a full, deep note from a flat one.
Two Restrictions
This system does not fit together with the Triumph paddock stand bobbins — an original Triumph accessory. It does fit with the Triumph belly pan. And on Euro 5+ machines with two lambda sensors the engine check light will come on once the ECU detects a deviation in the stock catalytic converter's parameters; that is expected with this system, not a fault.
A Note on the Figures
Akrapovic publishes no structured dyno record for this part. The weight and performance numbers above come from the manufacturer's own product text and are stated here as such.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-T6R2-CQTBL covers the Triumph Trident 660 from model year 2021 and the Daytona 660 and Tiger Sport 660 from 2024, through 2026. An optional black-coated stainless steel heat shield, P-HST6R1, is available separately.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use and was developed for racing tracks and closed courses. Fitting it to a road-registered motorcycle is the owner's legal responsibility.
