DescriptionThe whole story▼
Pulling away on an MT-10 rarely needs many revs. The crossplane engine has strength from the bottom of the rev range, and on dry tarmac that makes the bike easy to move off smoothly. On a wet zebra crossing, a painted arrow or a shiny strip of tar at the lights, the same strength has to be fed in gently, and the tool for that is the clutch. The Accossato ESV004 is a machined aluminium clutch lever for the MT-10 of 2016 to 2021, with an adjustable distance to the grip so that the friction point sits right under your fingers.
Key Features
- ESV004 clutch lever for the Yamaha MT-10, 2016 to 2021
- Mounted at the original clutch mounting
- Adjuster near the pivot for the distance to the grip
- Blade lengths: short, standard (approx. 138 mm), long
- Seven anodised blade colours, hub in black
- CNC-machined aluminium
- No hinge in the blade
- Supplied in an Accossato box
Construction and Material Quality
The lever is machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodised, a process that forms the coloured finish out of the aluminium surface. Accossato keeps the hub black and colours only the blade, so the part around the pivot and adjuster stays in tune with the dark controls around it while the blade adds the accent. There is no joint between hub and tip. Every movement of your fingers therefore reaches the clutch without passing through a hinge, which keeps the engagement predictable in exactly the situations where you need it to be.
Pulling Away on Wet Paint
Road markings, manhole covers and polished tar offer very little grip when wet, and they tend to lie exactly where you stop: at junctions, pedestrian crossings and traffic lights. A strong engine can break the rear tyre loose there even at modest throttle if the clutch engages abruptly. The remedy is old-fashioned technique. Keep the revs low, let the clutch out slowly through the friction zone, and hold it there a moment longer than you would on a dry road, until the bike is rolling and the rear tyre has found grip. That kind of control is easier when the lever does not force your fingers to stretch. Bring the ESV004 in far enough that you can hold the bite point with a relaxed hand, and consider the long blade, which reduces the pull and gives finer control over small movements. If you often ride the MT-10 in the wet, it also helps to stop with the rear wheel beside the painted line rather than on it, so that the first metres of every start are on ordinary tarmac.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESV004 for the MT-10 from 2016 to 2021 and fits it in place of the original lever at the stock clutch mounting. For the front brake of the same bikes, the EDF016 is the matching Accossato lever, with the same colour choices. The MT-10 SP appears on Accossato's list with a brake lever only, so this clutch lever is not listed for the SP.
Road Approval
A German ABE has not been documented for the ESV004, so we supply it as a part for track use.
