DescriptionThe whole story▼

Riding an R1 on a circuit is largely a matter of repetition: the same braking marker, the same turn-in point, the same pressure on the lever, lap after lap. The 2015 generation of Yamaha's superbike was developed with that kind of use in mind, and it rewards riders who brake consistently. The Accossato EDR015 is a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the R1 of 2015 to 2024, fitted to the original master cylinder and adjustable for distance to the grip.

Key Features

  • EDR015 brake lever for the Yamaha R1, 2015 to 2024
  • Also listed for the R1 S, 2015 to 2021
  • Mounts on the original master cylinder
  • Reach adjustable near the pivot
  • Short blade for two-finger braking, long for four fingers, standard approximately 138 mm
  • CNC-machined aluminium, anodised; black hub
  • Rigid, one-piece construction

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato's know-how in braking comes from brake discs developed for Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3. The EDR015 is a simpler part: machined from aluminium on CNC equipment, then anodised, with a black hub carrying the pivot and adjuster and a blade in one of seven colours. It is fixed from hub to tip. With no folding joint in the load path, there is nothing to develop play over a season of track days, and the pressure you apply travels straight to the master cylinder.

Brake Markers, Lap After Lap

On track, braking is organised around reference points. You pick a marker, a board or a patch on the tarmac, and aim to start braking there every lap, moving it a little later as your confidence grows. That only works if your hand does the same thing each time it arrives at the lever. If the blade sits far out, the first part of every stop is spent reaching for it, and the moment braking actually begins varies from lap to lap. With the reach set so that your fingers are already on the blade as you close the throttle, the gap disappears and the braking point becomes repeatable. Many riders who take the R1 to circuits choose the short EDR015, which ends before the outer fingers and lets two fingers modulate the brake while the others stay on the throttle; it is made in blue, gold, green, orange and silver. Set it in race gloves, with the bike on its stands and your body in the riding position, and fine-tune it after the first session, once the adrenaline has settled and you can think clearly about what your hand actually did.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the EDR015 for the R1 from 2015 to 2024 and also names the R1 S for 2015 to 2021. A second brake lever on Accossato's list, the EDR019, reaches into the same period, so compare the photos of both with the lever on your R1 before choosing. For the clutch, Accossato gives the ESV04A for R1 models of 2015 to 2021 and the ESY688 for the 2022 to 2024 bikes. The R1M is listed separately.

Road Approval

Racetrack only: there is no documented German ABE for the EDR015.
