QJ Motor has two 650s in this catalogue and they were given different fine media. The SRK 650 RR on this page is offered with the P14, a dry nonwoven working at 14 microns; the SVT-650 X is offered with the T12 at 7 instead, and neither model gets both. That is not a verdict on how the two bikes are ridden. Which fine medium exists follows the housing — what fits it, what was tooled for it — so the question here is not which number is smaller, but whether the trade attached to 14 microns suits the roads you actually use.
Key Features
- Dry special nonwoven filtering to 14 microns, rated at 1,800 l/m²/sec
- Built as a mat with depth rather than as a tighter weave
- The fine medium catalogued for this particular airbox; no oil at any point
- Slots into the standard housing of the SRK 650 RR with nothing modified
- Roughly double the filtering area of an ordinary performance element
- Cleaned with compressed air and refitted; two-year warranty from purchase
What fourteen microns returns, and what it costs
It returns retention below the level the standard 80-micron weave is drawn for — the particles that pass a road panel unnoticed are the ones this mat is built to stop. It costs flow, and the figures say how much: 1,800 l/m²/sec against 5,050 for the standard element in the same housing, close to three times less air per square metre of material each second. There is no version of this exchange in which both move the same way. A finer medium always holds back more and always passes less, which is why the range is a set of tools for different air and not a series of upgrades.
The claim not to make
None of this makes a standard SRK 650 RR noticeably stronger, and a finer element is the last place anyone should look for that. The engine's output is set by an intake tract, a set of throttle bodies and a calibration signed off together, and a panel dropped into the middle of that arrangement does not renegotiate it. The honest case for the P14 is narrower and more durable: on roads that carry real dust it puts a stricter limit between that dust and everything downstream, and it does so in a part that is washed and refitted rather than bought again. Where the roads are clean, the standard weave remains the sensible answer.
Care and cleaning
Because the mat holds its load nearer the surface, compressed air does more here than it does on a coarse weave — line on the clean face, working outwards, letting the dirt leave by the path it took in. Water is the second resort: hand-warm, a trace of mild detergent, then rinsed until clear. Everything after that is patience, in ambient air, with no radiator, heat gun or flame anywhere near it. The SM282P14 goes back in dry and untreated, and its maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab on this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
