A screen and a half fairing change what a rider does with a 660 triple: whole days at a constant throttle opening, the sort of distance a naked bike rations out. That has a consequence for the air filter, and it is not the obvious one about shelter. Intake restriction announces itself in transients — in the hesitation when the throttle is opened hard from low revs. Six hours of steady cruising contain almost no transients to read, so an element slowly loading up gives the rider nothing to notice. The Sprint Filter SM223S takes the noticing out of it: a dry woven polyester element cleaned and refitted whenever you decide, instead of a paper panel whose condition you are asked to guess at.
Key Features
- One woven layer of polyester, threads from ø 22 microns, aperture calibrated to 80 µm
- Rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec — Sprint Filter's standard medium for road and track use
- Dry and never oiled, so no film travels downstream onto the air sensor or the throttle bodies
- Roughly double the filtering surface of other performance filters, inside the standard airbox
- A direct replacement for the paper panel: no airbox modification, no remap, no paperwork
- Washable, reusable, built to last the life of the motorcycle, two years of warranty from purchase
A touring pace hides a loading filter
A cellulose panel is a consumable by design. It begins at its lowest restriction and climbs until somebody replaces it, so the worst air path of the interval is its last stretch. On a bike ridden in short bursts that climb eventually shows as a soft response low down. On a bike holding a fixed throttle opening it shows as nothing: the engine management works around small changes in airflow without asking the rider's opinion. None of that means a drop-in element makes a standard Tiger Sport noticeably faster. It does not. What it does is hold the intake at one known restriction and put it back there at every clean.
Two media for the same airbox
The P08 is the medium this machine is catalogued with: 80 µm at 5,050 l/m²/sec, listed for road and track. Sprint Filter also lists a T12 for the Tiger Sport 660: a dry non-woven at 7 µm and 560 l/m²/sec, for extreme and off-road conditions. Read the two as a line, not a ranking — a finer structure holds back more and flows less, a trade worth making only where the air demands it.
Care and cleaning
Ordinary service for the SM223S is a line of compressed air on the clean side, blown outwards through the media. After a hard or dusty season, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. It dries fully in open air, never with heat and never with a flame, and goes back into the airbox dry. No stage of this involves oil. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Triumph Tiger Sport 660 built from 2022 to 2026. The same SM223S element also serves the Triumph Trident 660 of 2021 to 2026, which shares the platform and the airbox — two machines on one part number. Check your model year in the Fitment tab before ordering.
