DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 08774-10 is a pair of fork springs rated at 38.5 N/mm, 35.5 mm long with a 32.5 mm inner diameter. Under braking a soft spring lets the fork run through its stroke and the geometry with it.

Key Features

  • 155 mm of usable stroke
  • Tapered-wound, constant rate
  • Measured spring rate 38.5 N/mm
  • Öhlins part number 08774-10
  • Inner diameter 32.5 mm
  • Supplied as a pair
  • Free length 35.5 mm

Manufacture and Tolerance

Materials read unremarkably on paper — aluminium, steel, nitrogen — and the difference lies in how precisely they are made. Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain. Production has stayed in Sweden since the company was founded in 1976.

The Numbers That Matter

The 32.5 mm bore and 35.5 mm length are the two figures that decide whether it physically fits; 38.5 N/mm decides whether it suits the rider.

Choosing 38.5 N/mm

This is the stiff end of Öhlins' catalogue, chosen when fork dive rather than grip is the limiting factor. Track use with sustained heavy braking is the typical reason to go this far. This is the stiff end of the catalogue — chosen when collapse under load, not grip, is the limit. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.

Applications

Rate is the variable that depends on the rider, not on the machine. Two people on the same bike may well want two different numbers. The safest way to choose is by static sag: set the target figure, and the rate follows from whether you can reach it with preload. This is a service part in the proper sense — it wears, it settles, and replacing it restores what the suspension was designed to do.

Fitting

Öhlins supplies a setting sheet with the springs; the numbers on it assume the specified oil. Work on both legs in one session so the fork stays symmetrical. Both legs are done together, and both take the same rate.

Road Approval

Road approval: none is issued for springs as such — they replace an existing component of the same function. Any model-specific approval is listed under Applications.

Fitting and Setup Service

Fitting matters as much as the part. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and carry out installation, servicing and setup ourselves — get in touch and we will arrange it alongside your order.
