DescriptionThe whole story▼

Melotti Racing developed the Fast Action Front Wheel Axle Kit for Supersport 600 competition and the leading teams racing the Yamaha YZF-R9 in Supersport championships now run it, a sign of how directly it answers the one job that matters most in a pit box during a wheel change: getting the front axle in and out as quickly as a power tool allows.

Key Features

  • Fast action front wheel axle kit for the Yamaha YZF-R9, 2025 onward
  • Melotti part KPRAR.YA.925, built to FIM regulations
  • Axle in highly alloyed steel, with a fast-thread profile and dedicated broaching for a power tool
  • 1/2 inch drive key for the power tool included
  • Ergal threaded bushing with hardened surface treatment
  • Ergal lock nut, black anodised
  • Racing wheel spacers in Ergal with an extended ramp and an asymmetric retaining lip
  • Axle protectors in Anticorodal, low-drag profile, free-floating on the axle

Construction and Material Quality

The axle itself is made from highly alloyed steel and cut with a fast-thread profile together with broaching designed specifically for a power tool, so a mechanic can drive it in or out rather than turning it by hand against a conventional thread. Melotti supplies a 1/2 inch drive key sized for that tool as part of the kit, along with an Ergal threaded bushing that has been surface-hardened and a black anodised Ergal lock nut. The racing wheel spacers, also in Ergal, carry an extended ramp and an asymmetric retaining lip, and the axle protectors are machined in Anticorodal with a low aerodynamic-impact profile, sitting loose on the axle rather than clamped to it.

Built for the Front of the Grid in Supersport

Melotti built this kit specifically for Supersport 600-style regulations and says it meets FIM requirements, which is also why the leading teams racing a YZF-R9 in Supersport competition have adopted it rather than a generic fast-release axle. The whole point of a fast axle is the weekend it is used on, not the showroom: during a race meeting, the ability to drive the axle in and out with a power tool instead of a hand wrench can be the difference between a wheel change finished inside a set pit-lane time and one that is not. Melotti recommends pairing the kit with its quick-change front fender support kit, since the two were designed to work together during the same wheel change.

Fitment and Compatibility

Melotti's own fitment for the KPRAR.YA.925 on the YZF-R9 starts at 2025, which this listing follows, and the identical axle, bushing and spacers carry across to the YZF-R1 from 2015 and the YZF-R6 from 2017. Order the KSPM.YA.217 fender kit alongside it for the same bike.

Road Approval

No ABE exists for the KPRAR.YA.925. It is supplied for racetrack and closed-circuit use, consistent with the Supersport competition it was developed for.
