DescriptionThe whole story▼
CK22312 is the right-hand closure of the race tail — the side the silencer is on. It carries the same shape as its opposite number but spends its life above a hot exhaust, which makes the laminate specification the interesting part rather than the outline.
Key Features
- Right-hand closure panel for the CK22300 race seat unit
- Sits above the silencer, so the inner face is prepreg rather than wet-laid
- Autoclave cured, which is what keeps void content down in a heat-cycled panel
- Encloses the right side of the subframe and its wiring
- Ordered individually, so one damaged side is one part
Heat, Again
The failure that catches people out on the exhaust side is not a dramatic one. It is a slow softening at the inner face after dozens of heat cycles, showing up as a dull patch or a slight loss of stiffness long before anything cracks. Curing the laminate under pressure is the countermeasure, because it is trapped air between plies that does the damage: it expands each time the panel warms and works at the resin until the bond gives. A consolidated laminate simply has far less of it to begin with.
What to Look For When Cleaning
The inside of the right tail wing collects the things nobody washes: brake dust off the rear disc, chain fling, and a fine layer of rubber. That grit is mildly abrasive and it sits exactly where the panel bears on its mountings. Wiping the inner face when the tail comes off costs a minute and gives an opportunity to look at the laminate around the fixings, which is where a crack will start if one is going to.
Clearance
Check the gap to the silencer with the exhaust cold and the bike on its wheels rather than on a stand — a bike under its own weight sits differently, and a clearance that looks generous on a paddock stand can close up once the suspension takes the load.
Fitment
For the Kawasaki ZX-10 R and ZX-10 RR, 2021 to 2026. The left-hand panel is CK22311.
Road Approval
Supplied without approval documentation, for closed-course use.
